Not to toot my own horn, but when Mike Patrick and Doris Burke said no one was giving Maryland a chance in the Final Four, I screamed at the television that someone should read the Nation blog.
(I later apologized to the television for yelling. It's only brought me much joy all these many years and didn't deserve my wrath.)
Before the Elite Eight I wrote Maryland would win it all. (OK, I also wrote that Carolina would lose to Tennessee, so I'm not perfect. Ask my wife, she'll confirm that.)
Maryland is now in the title game after beating Carolina 81-70 in Sunday's first semifinal. In this day and age it's almost unbelievable that a team could make just one three-point shot and still win the game, but that's what the Terps did against Carolina.
So give all the credit to Crystal Langhorne and Laura Harper who just owned the Heels inside. Harper led the way with 24 points, but Langhorne finished with 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting.
What a contrast at the end of the game between two Carolina players. Erlana Larkins fouled out and, before taking a seat on her team's bench, went over to shake hands with Maryland's coaching staff. A class act all the way.
Then there's Ivory Latta. You have to admire her play all season long, but throwing Marissa Coleman to the floor in the final seconds was disgraceful. Blame it on emotions if you want, but if I'm Sylvia Hatchell I bench her in the first game next year. Embarrassing.
Maryland is in the championship Tuesday night. Who will they play? We'll find out in a couple of hours. Duke and LSU are ready getting close to tip time.
