OK, it's late. I'm tired. And this whole spring ahead thing has me all messed up. So I'll make this short and sweet. (Well, at least short).
It will be Maryland and Duke for the title. See my earlier posts for the skinny on Maryland's win over Carolina. As for Duke, they just dismantled LSU.
How good was Duke's defense? Seimone Augustus, LSU's star player and a sure bet to be the top pick in the WNBA draft later this week, was held to 14 points, most of those coming after the game was decided. She went scoreless in the first half.
As for Tuesday's title game, it should be fun. Duke has won two of three this season from the Terps, but Maryland won the most recent meeting in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
The Terps had their way inside against Carolina, but one would have to think that with Alison Bales in the middle Crystal Langhorne and Laura Harper won't have it quite so easy against Duke.
Plus, the Blue Devils are sort of flying under the radar a little bit. Well, as much under the radar as a No.-1 seed can fly. Everyone focused on North Carolina and Maryland in the first semifinal and kind of forgot about Duke.
Mechelle Voepel of the Kansas City Star and ESPN.com said she thought that might have helped the Devils.
"Gail Goestenkors has been at the Final Four three times before," Voepel told ACC Nation last week prior to the games this weekend. "(She) really understands what to do in terms of sort of keeping a balance for your team going into these big games."
I picked Maryland to win it all prior to the Elite Eight and I'm sticking with that pick now. Still, it won't be easy. Tuesday night should be fun.
(By the way, I hear rumors that there is some kind of college basketball game Monday night also. I'll see what I can find out about that and let you know.)
